They may want to just sit back on the beautiful white sand beaches and enjoy the warm Caribbean waters, or they may want to head to the shops and restaurants of 5th Avenue. They could arrange for visits to some of the many wonderful parks or they could take a trek into the forests.
Clearly there are plenty of things to do in Playa del Carmen, and the trouble is picking a few to enjoy during a holiday or vacation. So, where do you start? Well if you want to make a day of shopping and strolling the citys traffic-free main thoroughfare it is best not to plan this activity for a Tuesday or Thursday as that is the day the cruise ships dock in Playa del Carmen. This would be the perfect time to make arrangements for one of the Playa del Carmen tours to Tulum or Xel-Ha to see the Mayan ruins or even book a day at Xcaret which is known as the Mayan Eco Disney. Here you can enjoy rides and activities that introduce visitors to the Mayan culture, it too is only a short ride from the real ruins of Xel-Ha.
If spending time in crowds or on group tours is not appealing there are many other Playa del Carmen attractions that would allow visitors to trek or explore the areas natural wonders on their own. For example, one of the most well-known Playa del Carmen activities is cenotes exploring. Cenotes are naturally occurring wells that are the home to underground rivers. Explorers can find stalactite and stalagmite formations, tropical fish and unique environments within each one. Many cenotes are also surrounded with ancient ruins or the remains of old villages that relied on the supplies of fresh water the cenotes can deliver.
There are also those who enjoy jungle trekking and anyone partaking of Playa del Carmen travel should make a point of visiting such locations as Aktun Chen where a serpentarium introduces visitors to the many poisonous snakes and creatures of the forests. There is also the Tres Rios Ecopark on ten miles from town, or at Punta Laguna where spider and howler monkeys as well as other jungle creatures can be seen in their native habitat.
