Top 12 Venues For Live Music In Playa del Carmen

As laid back as the Playa vibe is, the city definitely comes alive at night. This eclectic beach town showcases incredible musicians of every genre at dozens of vibrant venues 365 days a year. Indeed, you won’t have a problem finding excellent live music along the city’s main tourist thoroughfare, 5th Avenue.

However, we don’t want you to miss the opportunity to see some of the best musicians in the country playing at other clubs and restaurants beyond the famous 5th Avenue. Therefore, we’ve put together a list of 12 popular places to enjoy the best live music in Playa del Carmen.

The Lost Tiki

Wander beyond the tourist hub that is 5th Avenue and you’ll find a bounty of charming surprises including The Lost Tiki. Not only does the team assemble an eclectic dining experience, but also a loaded calendar of events.

Go for their happy hour, daily from 5 to 7pm and stay for groovy live music, which happens a few nights a week at 8:30. The Lost Tiki is just what you’d expect with the thatched roof and Tiki motif everywhere you look. The signature cocktails and Asian fusion menu is worth the short trek off the beaten path.

There’s no better place to savor the sun, sip on a cool cocktail, and listen to live music on a sunny afternoon than at Lido Beach Club. The self-proclaimed “favorite Playa del Carmen hangout by the beach” (and we couldn’t agree more) presents live music on most afternoons between 2 and 5pm.

Whether sitting with your feet in the sand and listening to melodic acoustic musicians or to the chill beats of  a top local DJ, you’re sure to relish your day at this beachfront club.

ALIVE Snack Bar

(10th Avenue between Juarez and Calle 2)

Along with being a hotspot for excellent live bands, you’ll also love the mixed crowd of  locals and expats alike. The beer is cold and the cocktails are reasonably priced. Best of all, it’s located in the heart of Playa del Carmen, a block from the famous Portal Maya structure.

This friendly corner bar is the “Cheers” of Playa del Carmen— where everybody knows your name. Catering to the over 30 crowd, ALIVE presents a variety of genres including Classic Rock and Pop from the 70s, 80s, and 90s.

Zenzi Beach

(Calle 10 & the beach)

It’s hard to not be inspired to hit Zenzi’s seaside dance floor when the cocktails are flowing and the live music is playing. In fact, the magnetic Mexican Caribbean atmosphere is on full display day or night at this beloved beach club. On one hand, a happy-go-lucky mix of locals and visiting travelers sets a friendly ambience. By the same token, dynamic entertainers and service staff also play a part in setting the sociable scene.

In addition to live music of various genres including reggae and alternative, there are fire show performers and latin dance lessons each week. By day, the turquoise views are captivating. At nightfall, the star-filled sky and seating surrounded by glowing palm trees also tend to set an idyllic tropical tone.

Buzo’s

(Calle 26 between 25th & 30th Avenue)

A popular restaurant and pub for residents, Buzos entertainment itinerary is tough to beat. From bingo nights to comedy nights and live music sessions, you’re bound to have a good time any night of the week.

As far as live music goes, Fah is a fan favorite. The 5th Avenue pub never fails to ignite the night with top musicians from across the continent. Its central downtown Playa del Carmen location makes it easy to find and there is plenty of seating to accommodate a large crowd.

Sample their delicious menu, which includes a wide variety of seafood. However, on the international side, the wings are an excellent choice. Not to mention, the drink prices are something worth raving about! Without a doubt, the friendly staff, fresh food, and fantastic rock bands will have you coming back time and time again.

Wine O’Clock

(Constituyentes & the corner of 90th Avenue)

This rare gem occupies a quiet corner on the opposite side of the highway as Playa del Carmen’s main tourist zone. Instead of a bustling open air patio on 5th Avenue, you’ll find an intimate setting enhanced by soft melodies and delightful aromas.

Due to its sophisticated atmosphere, exceptional service staff, and artfully plated menu options, Wine O’Clock is a wise choice for a dinner out in Playa del Carmen. You’ll appreciate the broad selection of international and Mexican wines to accompany succulent dishes like pork belly tacos and seafood empanadas stuffed with artisanal cheeses.

Smooth jazz artists as well as classical harpist and violinist duos create a romantic ambience that is difficult to find anywhere else in the city.

(Calle 12 between 15th & 20th Avenue)

Zitla Playa Restaurant, Playa del Carmen, Riviera Maya

Situated on one of Playa del Carmen’s roads less traveled, you might miss Zitla if it weren’t for its striking murals throughout. The cheerful atmosphere is ideal for families, date nights, or an evening out with a group of friends.

The menu boasts a mix of mouthwatering casual eats such as steak burritos, tasty tacos, and seafood towers. While tequila is always a good choice when you’re in Mexico, Zitla’s signature cocktails are a must try.

Performers hit the stage Wednesdays and Friday through Sunday beginning at 8:30. The staff’s personalities are as lively and bright as the murals and music. The Zitla team goes above and beyond offering you a true glimpse of Playa del Carmen’s characteristic hip and vibrant vibe.

This upbeat Mexican eatery has been flourishing on Playa del Carmen’s famous 5th Avenue for over a decade. In addition to the bursts of colorful decor, the sounds of soulful musicians, and whiffs of authentic Mexican flavors will capture your attention as you pass by their lively patio.

The good times are always rolling at this Cuban restaurant and bar. Of course, the liquid courage, courtesy of the best mojitos in town, helps to fill the dance floor. But the live bands are what make sultry salsa nights here a blast!

A dine and dance experience at La Bodeguita del Medio presents a perfect taste of Cuban culture. Without fail, the graffiti on the wall, the scent of cigars in the air, and the Afro-Cuban beats transport you to the heart of Havana. All the while being catered to and entertained by the warm service and master mojito bartending team.
