Honeymoon in Playa del Carmen

Everything seems to be moving along smoothly with the plans for your upcoming nuptials. The location is booked, you’ve met with the florist and photographer, THE dress is tucked away in a safe spot, even the last minute alterations for the tuxes are complete. As the big day approaches, you look forward to exchanging vows with the love of your life and celebrating one of the most important events in your life with your closest friends and family.

Even for the most organized A-type personalities with their meticulous spreadsheets and to-do lists, planning a wedding is stressful! On top of regular work schedules and social responsibilities, meeting with the caterers, arranging the guest list and handling countless emails and calls from the wedding planner can take their toll.

So when it comes to deciding on the ideal place to relax after one of the most exciting milestones of your life, a honeymoon in Playa del Carmen makes perfect sense.

It’s In A Superb Location

Situated in the heart of Mexico’s divine Riviera Maya, Playa del Carmen is an optimal home base for exploring the beauty of the region. It’s only 40 minutes from the Cancun International Airport, with literally hundreds of interesting things to do within a short radius.

There’s no need to travel halfway around the world to experience exotic, natural beauty and pristine waters. With nearly four hundred arrivals landing in Cancun and Cozumel everyday, finding a convenient flight option is easy. The two of you will be lounging on the sand with margaritas in hand before the ink dries on your wedding certificate.

Luxury Is Affordable in Playa del Carmen

While some all-inclusives offer amenities like butler service, premium liquor, and a Nespresso coffee machine in the room, this lavishness can cost upwards of $10000 USD for one week.

Playa del Carmen has many incredible oceanfront, luxury accommodations that are not only more affordable, but present superior comforts. Stay in your own spacious home with a private jacuzzi on the terrace and a dedicated ambassador, plus indulge in-room couple’s massages or private chef services for less than half the price of extravagant hotels.

With the current exchange rates, your dollar goes a long way in Playa del Carmen. The city has a sizzling gastronomy scene featuring an exquisite mix of authentic Mexican flavors with a contemporary flare. Dine at amazing eateries scattered throughout this seaside paradise and enjoy cocktails on fabulous roof lounges showcasing top DJs from around the world as well as spectacular views of Playa. An elaborate meal with beverages and wine can cost under $60 USD!

It’s Romantic

There’s a reason why most bios on online dating platforms list walks on the beach as a favorite pastime, because it’s an activity that screams ROMANCE! The good news is that Playa del Carmen sits on one of the most alluring powdery-soft coastlines on the planet. The great news is that beginning your days by watching breathtaking sunrises together tends to lead to magical nights with happy endings!

One of the main components in the Mexican culture is being hospitable. If you’re a guest in someone’s home, consider yourself lucky to be in the presence of the quintessential host. This desire to make you feel welcome is an innate attribute that has trickled down into the region’s thriving tourism business.

Mexicans live to LOVE and when things don’t go as planned, well that’s why they have tequila! If you decide to spend your honeymoon in Playa del Carmen, you’re in for a treat! As soon as people in these parts get wind that you’ve just tied the knot, they go above and beyond the call of duty to make your time here special.

The Riviera Maya is part of the Yucatan Peninsula, which is widely known for its cenote swimming holes. In Playa del Carmen, there is an actual series of caverns that you can dine in! Alux Restaurant and Bar takes patrons beneath the surface of the earth for an otherworldly dining experience. The romantic cave setting features candlelit tables in the middle of awe-inspiring limestone tunnels and serene pools. From the ceilings hang elegant chandeliers and marvelous stone formations. The place exudes romance and has been in Travel & Leisure for being one of the world’s strangest bars.

It’s Diverse

Scuba Diving Playa del Carmen

After operating at a frenzied pace during the months leading up to the big event, some of you will look forward to unplugging and just enjoying every peaceful moment of wedded bliss. Sitting by the pool, lounging on the beach and nibbling on guacamole and chips are about all your itinerary will have room for.

For the more active type, after two or three days of utter relaxation you’ll be ready for more. Whatever your ‘more’ entails, we’re pretty sure Playa del Carmen hits the mark. From paddle boarding over crystal clear waters towards a radiant pink sunrise, to exploring ancient ruins and natural turquoise pools within caves, this seaside paradise offers activities for every type of couple.

One of our favorite activities for couples is a photography workshop with Bushman Photography. Full day tours take you on a grand adventure to places like the Coba Mayan archaeological site, a cenote sinkhole, a monkey sanctuary and finally to a lagoon to capture the sunset. The company provides professional cameras and lenses and participants are instructed throughout the day. Not only do you get to experience some of the most fascinating highlights within the Riviera Maya, you also learn a beneficial skill alongside your favorite person in the world.

Cozumel, just a 45-minute ferry ride from Playa del Carmen is renowned for diving. Whether you and your partner are avid divers or beginners, spending a day beneath the surface of the Caribbean Sea is an unforgettable experience. There are shipwrecks to discover and an abundance of marine creatures to mingle with.

If you love the water but diving is not necessarily your thing, swimming with the whale sharks is an unbelievable encounter. These gentle giants migrate to two areas in the Yucatan Peninsula through the months of June to September. You can snorkel side by side with the largest creatures of the sea in Isla Mujeres or in Holbox. Either option is an easy day trip from Playa del Carmen and the experience will most definitely be one of the high points of your honeymoon.

It’s A Small City With Fantastic Night Life

Playa del Carmen nightlife

After soaking up the sun or touring the awesome terrain, we suggest you get out and see what Playa del Carmen has in store at night. Coco Bongo is famous for its Vegas-style shows, world-class DJs and epic party atmosphere. You can get an all-inclusive bracelet from vendors stationed along 5th Avenue, Playa’s main dining, shopping and entertainment district. Enjoy superstar music impersonations, silk aerial acrobatic performances and an outstanding staff that really keeps the party alive all night long.

If you’re over the nightclub scene, we recommend Le Lotus Rouge for a unique experience. Also known as Art World, it is a place for every type of artist to let their creativity soar. A Reggae, Jazz or Rock performer will take the intimate stage one night, while open mic and poetry readings happen on other nights. When you walk into this place, it’s as if you’ve set foot on another planet, an artistic carnival spectacle. But have no fear, Natacsha, the one-of-a-kind mastermind behind this intriguing creation, has a knack for making people feel open and comfortable. Her personable way loosens your inhibitions and encourages your imagination to take you on a journey you’ll remember forever.

For those of you that are looking for a dance scene sans techno music, you’ll love the live bands at Zenzi Beach Bar. Sip on minty mojitos ocean side with your toes in the sand and listen to some of the best live music in town. Zenzi is also the place to be for those who enjoy sultry salsa nights.

It’s An Award-Winning Travel Destination

Recently earning 20th spot on Trip Advisor’s Traveller’s Choice for Top 25 Destinations in the World, Playa del Carmen offers sublime beaches, a vast selection of superb accommodations to suit any budget, an ultra-hip, multicultural vibe, and a flourishing dining scene to name a few.

The Riviera Maya also won Best Honeymoon Destination: Mexico & South America at the 2017 Travvy Awards held in New York City. Tourism is the main industry in this part of the country, so government officials, industry employees and The Riviera Maya Tourism Board work hard to ensure visitors have safe, unforgettable experiences.

Here’s to love, laughter and happily ever after!
