Sacred Mayan Journey

To witness this meaningful race, which commemorates an ancient pilgrimage, is to be a part of the fascinating history of the Mayan civilization.
Each May, Xcaret Park is the scenic starting point of the Travesia Sagrada (Sacred Mayan Journey). The day begins at dawn with Mayan ceremonies of blessings and gratitude. As the sun begins to rise over the Caribbean, several groups of steel-willed men and women embark on the challenging 7-hour voyage. Paddling replica canoes similar to those used centuries ago, the teams set off towards Cozumel. In the massive, wooden canoes, they bring with them offerings for Ixchel, the Goddess of Fertility. After paying homage to Ixchel and resting for the night, they depart the island and return to Xcaret Park. It is an exhilarating welcoming, courtesy of the hundreds of cheering spectators. Unwinding from the 19 km trek, the participants, join in to celebrate with live music and cultural dances.
Zouk MX 2020
